Minty Fresh.

According to some people at the greenhouse, "commemorative coins" are made up with team logos, and when two teams work together on some sort of exercise, they swap coins. I honestly have no idea if this is true or not -- all I know is that yes, I do have a couple such coins in my possession.

I don't feel all that great about it, though -- I mean, I never gave anything back in return. How could I? No one told me I'd have to start bringing fake currency to work with me.

On the other hand, no one told me I couldn't start.

"But wait!", you say, and rightly so. "You can't just decide to represent your entire team!"

I couldn't agree more. But conversely, no one on my team can tell me not to represent myself. That's right: In what is easily the vainest plan I have ever had, I am seriously considering minting coins with my own face stamped on them, and handing them out like business cards.

There would certainly be a Pi symbol on there somewhere as well, and maybe a moose... But more importantly, I know exactly what motto is going to be printed inside the rim:

"To Coin A Froese."

Honestly, this idea wasn't even half-baked until I thought of that. Now, I don't know if I have any option besides going through with this.

I've been enamoured with the idea of real pirate gold (recovered pieces of eight from ship wrecks) for years now. They don't need to be in good shape -- it's the fact that it's PIRATE GOLD that matters. So, the theory went, buying a bunch to hand out would be cheap.

Except it turns out that pieces of eight were actually made from silver (mined in the New World, naturally). And even the crappy replicas cost around $5 a coin on Ebay. Sigh.
